Born in Basel, Switzerland, Claude Bowald began to play the guitar at the age of sixteen. As a guitarist, singer and composer, he joined several well-known Swiss rock bands, touring Switzerland and other countries. He won first prize as best performer and bandleader at the Swiss Jazz and Rock Award Festival twice. After studying classical guitar and arranging/composing at the conservatories of Biel/Bern and Schaffhausen, he began experimenting with the possibilities of the acoustic guitar. Working with different bands and musicians like Osias Goncalves, Andy Aegerter, Hans Feigenwinter, Regina Ribeiro, Urs Bösiger, Sofus Gledisch and many others, he developed new techniques like two-hand-tapping and his own unique style of playing and composing on steel string guitar. Over the years he wrote scores for several theater companies, choirs and orchestras.
His most recent project is called “natural loops”. With this project for solo guitar he is touring Switzerland, Germany and other countries. He‘s also a member of the contemporary Swiss Folk band “Drumlin”, putting a modern spin on traditional Swiss music.
Furthermore, Claude Bowald is engaged in several other projects, for example a duo with the well-known Swiss jazz guitarist Dragan Pietlovic.
